It's gone loco!!

Hello out there!!! When I say loco I mean that My Robot went psycho!!!. It all started as an ordinary Enrich day when Nicola was pulling names out of a hat of the people who had to do their presentations of their gifted study. The seven today, that have presented so far are: Josh, Daniel, Robert, Neave, Me, Olivia and Alex. Out of all we had three about J.K Rowling, one on Steve Irwin, one on Albert Einstein, one on Thomas Edison and my one was none other than J.R.R Tolkien. You would of loved to have seen all of the studies but they were only played at Erich. My favourite slideshow was Daniel's because he said thanks to all of the teachers, Josh and his parents for helping him with his study. Now onto the story about the Crazy Robot. Daniel and I were programming a robot to follow lines on the special mat that we always use. We had downloaded a programme that would make it follow the lines, but all it would do was roam around like a lost dog.

I Am Albert Einstein!

Today I was learning science.  We had to put litmus paper in 15 items and see if they were acidic,  alkaline,  or neutral.... most of them were neutral.... baking soda was a neutral. Then we had to make our own potions. Mine was made out of vinegar, baking soda, jelly crystals,  lemonade , soy sauce and quick-eze.

Almost finished.

Today I was spent a good chunk of my day on my affective study and my passion project. In my affective study I was editing my work and making each of the slides in my Keynote more detailed, rather than having all the information spread out in too many slides! So now my presentation will be even better. Now onto Robotics. Daniel and I made a lot of progress when all of a sudden, disaster struck! Our robot jammed, so we had to restart the whole thing! It jammed because one of the pieces was out of line, so we had to take it apart and then restart it.

NXT Robot programming

The light sensor flicked on the robot was off. It was our session of robotics, Daniel and I were trying to make our robot follow the lines of our light sensor sheet. It was a success, the robot completely drove around the track. Darryn took a photo of Daniel and me with our robot."Now time to blog you two" he said.

Gifted study

Today it was a whole hour of research. It was just long enough for me to finish my study on J. R .R Tolkien. Today I wrote some background info and also found three habits of mind they  were Striving for Accuracy  Creating , Imagining and Innovating and  Thinking and Communicating with clarity and precision. He has lived in France , England and South Africa. All I have to do now is to add in all the affects.

Thats all bloggers and peace out.

Research! Research! Research!

Today I focused on getting all my background info in on my affective study. The person I am working on is John Ronald Reuel Tolkien. He is famous for his books 'The Hobbit', 'The Lord Of The Rings' and 'The Silmarilion'. He also participated in both World War I & II. He was born in Bloemfontein in 1892, and died in Bournemouth 1973. My study on him will be finished next term and I will present it to the rest of the class.

100% ON Maths Buddy!!!!!!!

This will blow you away. If you read last week's blog then you will know that I have been doing Maths Buddy. This programme goes up to university level which is extremely impossible! I got 67% on Year 8 maths. If you read the title, you know that I got 100% on year 6 multiplication before I stopped to do the high level on university, my percentage was 33%

That's all for now.

Passion time

Today I had my first day on a different passion project, because, we finished our documentary for the MADE Awards last week.  This week, I chose a maths website called Maths Buddy. You can do all sorts of maths at all sort of year levels. First, you have to do the tutorial, and once you've done that, you complete a test.  Today, I worked at Year 7 and 8 number and decimals. My best score was 87% on Year 4 Multiplication. My best score on Year 8 decimals was 50%.

PEACE OUT BLOGGERS.

We made our own theme song!

Today we finished our documentary on dry ice for the MADE Awards. We spent time today fine-tuning our movie.  We re-recorded some voice overs, we adjusted the sounds of some voice overs so they all were clear to listen to, we made our own theme song using Garageband and inserted it to different parts of the movie, we added in some cool transitions to make the information slides look like they were a book and each page was being turned over. My favourite detail was our theme song we made.  It sounds really professional! Next week I will get to choose my own passion project!  I think I might possibly do some lino printing, but I will have a bit of a think about it over the weekend!

Prezi

Prezi is a computer programme that is like keynote, but it is more interesting.  It is supposed to help us with our presentation of the gifted person we are researching. It's an online presentation tool.  I am doing J. R. R. TOLKIEN. If you were wondering what J.RR stands for, it is John Ronald Reuel. He was born 1892, and died 1973. Bloemfontein was where he was born.

You will hear more next time...

Sugar and flour babies

"Your time starts now" yelled Katie. Neave, Daniel and I sped into work "Daniel , Jackson start making the stretcher" Neave said.
We rush to the newspaper and start structuring the stretcher while Neave makes the handles "10 minutes". "Go Go Go" I yell to my teammates after that it became a madhouse everybody to the mat now we decide that we will have Neave and me do the course of the sugar and flour baby carrying.
Cassie and Josh are first then Neave and Jackson ETC. our stretcher broke at the mountain part of the course only one team which were Kyle , Thomas and Alex got through, we were second. The winning team took one minute and nine seconds

by JACKSON

Today in the tech challenge I learnt that maybe you should make strong handles on the stretcher and make a better design.

Ewwww yuck - A plate of boiled swede

If you were wondering what I did after my blog last week then you've came to the right blog. We did teacher led workshops and I went to poetry. I was with Jacob, Hamish, Daniel and Thomas. We had to make three haikus about our least favourite food, our favourite food, and chess. A haiku is a way of writing a poem out using 3 verses.  The first verse has 5 syllables, the next 7 syllables and the last one has 5 syllables. Now here's what I wrote:

This is the least favourite food:

Boiled Swede:

Sloppy, orange muck
Ball of garbage on my plate
Stinking out the house

Chess:

Noble warriors
Black versus white, battle on
Strategy of war.

MADE AWARDS!!

Just earlier today, we were doing talent development. I have transferred group so now I have joined into the MADE Awards group with Kyle, Neave and Natasha.  We are making a documentary for this national competition. We have decided that we are going to do a kids science lab.  We are going to base  our science lab on dry ice experiments. Our actual purpose is to see if dry ice can blow up a balloon? We are making a plan at this point for our video. It will probably be done in the chemistry lab space up the front of our classroom. That's what we did today for talent development.

The Three Rings

Guess what we did today? Here's what we did. We had a part of the morning doing Affective Domain. Katie brought up an image of three rings. This is a model of giftedness by a man named Joseph Renzulli. The three things that he says you need to be gifted are:  Task Commitment, Above Average Ability, and Creativity. Next, she showed us another model of giftedness. That one was about Francoise Gagne's perspective.  His model is REALLY big, but if you had to say it in one sentence - you are born with a gift, and you need to work hard to grow your gift.  Along the way, good and bad things can happen, but you have to keep persisting!!!

3 Dimensions 3 Directions

Just now I was learning how to sketch with Darryn we started with a face for lesson 1. Then we scrolled down to lesson 2 and did another face that had lots of different parts to draw. The final lesson was of a person holding a pair of balloons. Darryn drew a pair of apples on a plate then he showed us 3 dimensions which mean 3 directions. The secret to good drawing is keep looking at what you are drawing - don't guess what you think it looks like. This is part of my passion time - I am exploring ART!

Park excursion

Have you ever dropped a camera? Well, Enrich have.

Today was the day we went on a big field trip to find patterns. Guess what?  Hamish and I found 96!!! It all started today when we were sorted into two groups. One group was with Katie and Jenni and the other was with Nicola.  I was with Katie. We got to go to the aviary, cactus shed and animal part. At the end we got to have a little play and then walk back to Enrich for lunch.

I Enjoyed the plants the most.

Talent development tasters

I loved doing art with Darryn. We were making chess pieces and also doing music with Nicola. The music was all about learning how to do all types of notes in music. After we finished the sheet we got to learn this song called My Life Would Suck Without You. Now for Darryn's activity we learnt that there is a saying called 3 dimensions 3 directions. Then we got to use what we learnt and draw some chess men. I drew a bishop and a pawn.

Caines arcade

It all started this morning when Nicola showed us a video about this kid named Caine who made his own arcade out of cardboard. Sadly, he never got customers. Then a man came and tried it out and he thought it was entertaining so he put it on Reddit and facebook, then lots of people from all over the world to check it out. It got daniel and me to make one ourselves it is a game were you have to throw a ball into a tube of cardboard daniel called it catapult.

Fractal maths

Fractals is a maths pattern where the same shape is used over and over in a bigger shape - Broccoli is an example of a fractal so is lightening and rivers and trees!
When we started we drew a simple triangle then another one on top to make a "Star of David."
You may think it sounds easy..... well I'm telling you it's not! Not at all!
And then it goes from hard to really hard!
Next we had to use a ruler and measure each point of the star into 3rd's then half the middle third.
Then each of the middle thirds became another point on a smaller star.
Confused?? Here is a picture of my Koch snowflake.

B.O.S.S!

B.O.S.S!!!  No, I'm not talking about the teachers here, I'm talking about pattern types!
B - Beauty
O - Order
S - Strength
S - Survivability
If you're wondering what they mean, I'll tell you...
Beauty means that the patterns are beautiful to look at.  An example might be like how the sand ripples at a beach. Order means the pattern keeps things in a particular order.  An example is like a flight schedule at the airport, which will repeat again the next day. A pattern of strength would be the Sydney Harbour Bridge with it's cables and triangles. Last but not least, a pattern of survivability would be an owl butterfly. It is so clever that the pattern on it's wings looks like an owl so that when a predator comes along it will think it is a big owl and leave the butterfly alone!
